Organizing in food justice
I am a photographer and community organizer working at the intersections of climate, food and racial justice. Over the last decade, I have led and facilitated workshops centering grassroots movements organizing around climate justice. My work in food justice began as I deepened my understanding that addressing food justice being is critical to local climate adaption.
Black Creek Community Farm
I have worked as the Development and Communications Manager at Black Creek Community Farm the last two years supporting the farm through the pandemic and growing their digital engagement through effective communications strategies. This urban farm provides many programs to support the Jane and Finch community including Seniors program, Farm School, Urban Harvest, and Farm Park. Located in northwest Toronto, this initiative seeks to grow organic, accessible produce and provide food justice programming for local residents.
Parkdale Good Food Market
At the Parkdale Good Food Market, I manage the logistics of the weekly market, coordinate volunteers, and support community vendors in animating the space. This local initiative seeks to address food justice by providing affordable, fresh produce to local residents.
Thorncliffe Park Community Garden
As the Garden program manager, I support high school youth in building capacity around gardening and support community residents in growing their own produce. We also offered art-based programming for kids and youth, along with garden tours to invite residents in learning more about the food they can grow. Focus areas included urban farming, environmental stewardship, and outdoor environmental education.
